Celebrating Whiz Kids & Whiz Kids Unplugged

Joshua’s Place celebrated this year’s Whiz Kid & Unplugged kick-off week with over 100 children enrolled in the ministry!
Whiz Kids is one to one (student/tutor) reading literacy program. Using a curriculum provided by City Gospel Mission, Joshua’s Place launched its third site in Lebanon School District this year. This brings the total in the Kings, Little Miami and Lebanon School districts to over 100 kids being mentored or tutored each week of the school year.
Whiz Kids Tutors are paired with a 1st – 4th grader and meet with the same child on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  Whiz Kids Unplugged matches adult coaches with three students, and together in small groups, focus on fun educational games, life skills, and bible time. Field trips and guest speakers are a regular part of this program.

These programs are made successful through dedicated volunteers and churches who weekly tutor, teach, cook, and clean up! Joshua’s Place appreciates all of the volunteers that pull this off every week of the school year!

KingsUKnights & MasonCares

KingsUKnights & MasonCares come alongside the school district counselors to help provide holiday gifts to children in need within their district.
This school year, with the help of the community, we will need to provide gifts for over 400 students in the Mason School District and over 250 students in the Kings School District.
  • For Mason City School District, email masonohiocares@gmail.com and you will be assigned a child to sponsor. You then purchase three $25 gifts (2 clothing & 1 toy). You’ll drop off the unwrapped gifts to a designated school building and we’ll distribute to families on December 14th.

  • For Kings School District, email kingsuknights@gmail.com and you will be assigned a child to sponsor. You then purchase three $25 gifts (2 clothing & 1 toy). You’ll drop off the unwrapped gifts to a designated school building and we’ll distribute to families on December 14th.

This is an excellent opportunity for students, individuals, families, neighborhoods, churches, and local businesses to support families in need. Please consider helping a child from the community this year! We need to find sponsors for all by November 15th.
Will you help us serve these families?

Recognizing the “Gala Dream Team”

Tracy Goddard, Kim Rutz, & Amberly Lisle

“The Gala Dream Team focuses on this event year-round with creative efforts and hard work every year.”

Serving on Joshua’s Place “Gala Dream Team” is such a vital responsibility as the funds received through this event support the most substantial amount of resources for all the communities Joshua’s Place serves. This team orchestrates a lot of supporting parts to run the annual experience.

These ladies serve at Joshua’s Place in other capacities and see firsthand the impact Joshua’s Place has on the community and how it helps bring community residents together to help one another.

Listed below are the team’s top five reasons they love serving on the Gala Dream Team:

1 They love taking the theme of the event and bringing it to life. The atmosphere created adds excitement to the evening!

2 They love seeing the room all decorated and finished before guests arrive

to see how everything that they visualized in prior months come together. They work very hard to make the gala a wonderful evening for all the participants!

3 They love watching the live auction. It’s fun to see how high the bidding will go.

4 They love seeing groups of people from different communities all coming together to help reach our ultimate goal in bringing awareness and funds to support Joshua’s Place to reach more people!

5 The team loves knowing that all the long hours of planning put into this event go to serve the families in the communities that need it most–being part of a bigger purpose!

With all the hard work and planning that goes into this event, the team wants you to consider supporting Joshua’s Place by attending. This year’s new venue provides more room for a lot more people. Their goal is to see the room filled, knowing it offers more significant opportunities within the ministry. Be sure to grab your ticket(s) today!
