Whiz Kids is a one-to-one mentoring and tutoring program that helps students improve their reading. It is a one-hour-a-week commitment during the school year. This program provides support for kids that need help with reading. Volunteer partnership is even more important today because of COVID-related remote learning this past school year. In other words, kids that were already behind are even more behind now!
The key to the success of this program is the number of tutors that are willing to serve. In every school district where Whiz Kids is active, we have children on a waiting list. The more volunteers we have, the more kids we can help. Of course, the benefit is not just for the kids but is also for the tutor. We like to say, “an hour a week is two lives changed “…that second life is yours! Please take a minute to watch the following video on the impact Whiz Kids has on our communities.

We’ll provide you all of the training and support you need to be a great tutor, and we have much flexibility built into the program. You do not need to be a teacher or educator; most of our tutors are just regular folks who desire to impact a child’s life. If you’d like more information on what tutoring looks like or when and where we provide this program, go to the link below. Someone from the Joshua’s Place team will reach out to you and answer any questions you have. Do not put this off! The need is more significant than ever, and we know you can make a difference!

Walking in with the supplies needed for the first day of school is one way to put students’ minds at ease and set them up for a successful year. Last month, Joshua’s Place teamed up with volunteers to provide over 250 backpacks for students heading back to school in our Kings, Lebanon, Deer Park, and Little Miami School Districts. Sponsors filled these backpacks with school supplies specific to their grade and school building. The contributions of those who donated their time and resources to make this day a success are much appreciated!

We were excited to kick off another year of the Care Closet program in the Mason, Lebanon, Little Miami, and Kings School Districts. This program places stocked cabinets in every building with supplies to support students’ daytime nutrition, hydration, and personal hygiene. Care Closets provide school counselors with a strategic method of distributing supplies to students discreetly during the school day.

On August 29th, Christ Church hosted a “Church at the Bar Cookout” at the Monkey Bar and Grille. It was a day of food, fun, and LIVE music. By selling hamburgers and hotdogs for $2 each and 100% of the proceeds going to Joshua’s Place “Care Closets” project, they raised over $1400 for the ministry. Special thanks to all who came out and supported Joshua’s Place at this event.
